Synopsis:

To provide an understanding for the need for careful compliance with recommended infection control protocols. The presentation will provide an understanding of basic microbiology that is essential for all dental personnel. The ultimate objective is to protect the dental staff, other dental health care personnel, the office staff, and the patients from exposure, transmission and illness. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Dental Board of California for license renewal in providing a structured review of topics as described in the California Dental Practice Act. 

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the importance of infection control in the dental setting
  2. Understand the chain of infection and modes of transmission or potentially infecctious materials
  3. Identify the difference between cleaning, disinfection and sterilization and when to appropriately use each in the infection control process.
